Every April automobile auctioneers gather to compete for the World Automobile Auctioneer Championship title. To take us behind the scenes, Bobby D. Elhert traveled with his recording equipment to catch the flavor of the event. While I certainly hoped, I had no idea Bobby would end up winning the title, and can’t thank him enough for sharing his experience from takeoff to taking home the ring.

Understanding auction law is more than just having a licence to practice. 49 out of 50 states have adopted UCC 2-328 as law and those 254 words generate a great deal of discussion and even disagreement amongst auction professionals. In this episode we are joined by Mike Brandly, auctioneer and Legal Education Instructor, to break down the 4 sections of UCC 2-328 and how the it can affect your business.

Throwing money at marketing challenges may seem like a great place to start, but it does little good if the copy and the headline doesn’t grab anyone’s attention. For this episode, Robert Mayo, professional auctioneer and writing/marketing enthusiast, joins me to discuss the topic of headlines and copywriting. Sharing his secrets, Robert discusses some great techniques to improve the impact of the written word for your next campaign.

3 Steps to Greater Headline Impact!

Step 1: Consider your asset: create a demographic profile

  1. Age
  2. Where they live
  3. Interests
  4. Income level

Step 2: Put yourself into the position of that person

  1. Ask yourself: How would I respond?
  • Would I glance past?
  • Would it STOP me, and grab my attention?

Step 3: Focus 80% of your time on the headline

  1. None of the copy will even be seen if the headline doesn’t grab the viewer.
  2. Write 5 or 6 and set aside and then come back to see what you like best.
  3. Have someone not connected to the project read the headline to get an outsiders point of view.
